Thiru Gnana Sambandar sang Pathigam here by clapping his small hands. Impressed by his chants, Lord Siva gave “Thaalam”( “Gold Thalam” ) to beat and sing. Ammai gave sound to the “Gold Thalam” (Kanjira) as the Gold metal did not sound much. To satisfy the child Sambandhar, she gave sound to the “Pottralam”(Gold Kanjira).
Even now, there is a belief that children who can not speak well, or speech impaired will speak and chat well after prayers and blessed by Lord Siva here. A special Pooja is there on Sunday evenings at the temple on requisition for those children who could not speak well. The temple has no rock cut inscriptions but the present structure was erercted by Nagarathar Thiruppani. The ancient temple remaining and statues show Pallava periods. The statues are kept in ideal places; the lingam in Thiru chutru shows the ancient Purana times. The main moolavar is very kind enough to answer your prayer.
