Mathangi Munivar prayed Siva at Keelai Thirukkattu palli (Thiru Nangur) and Siva blessed him. Ammai gave birth to him as Raja Mathangeeswari. Ven Kattu Nathar married Mathangeeswari here. Salandaran, a Rakshas was killed by Siva. Salandran’s son Maruthuvan prayed to Siva here and wasblessed by Siva. Siva offered him his Soolam (Trisul) and told him to use that for humanity. But Maruthuvan tortured saints and disturbed Adiyars from doing Thabas. Siva got angry and sent Nandhi to bring Maruthuvan. But Maruthuvan attacked Nandhi with the Trisul given by Siva. It pierced into Nandhi’s body in nine places and disappeared. Nandhi, fainted and reported Siva. Siva with a lot of anger took “Agorar” avatar and killed Maruthuvan. There are nine holes in Nandhi’s body at Thiruvengadu. Keelai Thirukkattu palli where Nandhi was guarding RajaMathangesswari, came here to fight Maruthuvan. Hence there are two Nandhis, one is facing Raja Mathangesswarar and the other is facing east towards Thiru Vengadu. Kali, Agora Kesi, Soundarya Durgai helped in killing Maruthuvan prayed Siva and married Agorar.
