This is an ancient temple of Lord Siva Kannayiramudaiyar and Ammai Murugu valar kothai. Thrugnagna Sambandar sang pattigams about the temple. Thirumal, in Vamana Vvathar worshipped here (Gurumangudi).

Gouthama Munivar cursed Indran on his misbehaviourous to Agalya, and got 1000 eyes on his body. Indran prayed here for remedy and releived of his curses and sins.
