An ancient temple of Lord Siva Brahma Pureeswarar and Ambigai ThiriPura Sundari. It is also the abode of Lord Muruga Subramania Swamy and Anantha Valli. Appar sang songs about the temple. Sura Badman after the war with Murugan got the form of Peacock. Sura Badman prayed Murugan here. Murugan preached Gnana Yogam here. Here the statue of peacock’s head is on left side in the pose of hearing the voice. After the war with Sura badman on return, Murugan worshipped Siva here.

Alappur (Near Tharangampadi)

When Murugan chased Tharuga Asuran (brother of Sura badman), he went into sea and hid himself. He did black magic and disappeared. Murugan was stunned by his magical powers and could not send weapons to kill him. Murugan hesitated and fainted. Umai appeared before Murugan and cleared his hesitation and cleared his doubtfulness. (Thayakkam- Thayakkam padi- Tharangam Padi). Appar and Sundarar sang padigams about the temple.

Ettu Kudi Subramaniya Swamy Temple

At Keel Velur, Murugan prayed to Siva and Umai. Umai in the name of Anju Vattaththu Amman defended Murugan while he was worshipping (Thapas) Siva. The sculptor carved “Sikkal” Murugan statue. On seeing the beauty and nature of Velavan, the Sikkal temple administration, on agony for not doing the replica, cut His right finger. After that when he crossed “Ettukudi” he saw a stone which has all qualities to carve a statue. Mutharasan, a King, gave permission to sculpt the statue. When he formed the statue, the statue sweat out and a red shine came from that statue. When it was completed,the statue got life and arouse. On seeing that, the sculptor chistled at the foot. It remained calm. The king established the statue.

Chikkal Singara Velar

An ancient temple of Lord Siva Vennai Nathar and Ammai Vel Nedun Kanni. It is also the abode of Lord Muruga. Vasistar made Sivalingam with the butter made from Kamadenu’s milk. After worshipping, he tried to remove the Lingam but it stucked into. Hence, it is called as Sikkal (Confusion). In epics the place is called Malligai Vanam. Murugan worshipped here and Umai gave the “Vel”(Spear) to Murugan to kill Surabanman
