Saint Mathangar made his Ashram here and worshipped Siva. Siva appeared before him and offered blessings. Thath Purusha Beedam. Mathangi prayed to Lalitha Paramaeshwari and was blessed by Parameswari. Her Amsam “Mantharini” (Mathangi) and married to Siva at Thiru Vengadu.

Once, the Nandi here, was sent to Thiru Vengadu for “Maruthuvasuran Vatham." Hence, there are two Nandhis one facing East and other towards (west) Thiruvengadu.
