A famous temple of Lord Siva Amirtha Gadeswarar and Ammai Abirami. Lord Siva, to rescue Marakandeyar, killed yeman. Abirami Pattar lived here, and sang Abirami Anthathi. It is Mirukandu Rishi’s birth place. While yeman came to catch the life of Markandeyar, Markandeyar hugged the Lingam, Yeman tied his rope on both and tried to lift. At that time, Kala Sankarar appeared and killed Yeman. Even now, we can see the scar on the Moolavar.

Gnana Sambandar, Appar, and Sundarar sang padigams here. Kungiliya Kalaya Nayanar, and Kari Nayanar Mukthi sthalam. While “Paar Kadal” was stirred, the “Amutham” elevated from and beneath of the Paar kadal, in the form of Amirtha kadam, Amirtha Kadeswarar. The other names of this place are Vilwa Vanam, Pingchila Vanam, and Kadavur, in epics. Bramhma worshipped Siva, and prayed for "Gnana Upadesam.” Lord Siva presented him a Vilwa seed and told, where this seed grows within a "Muhurtham"(45 minutes), there I'll teach". Brahma planted the seed her. Hence he resided here, and did poojas. Lord Siva taught him the "Gnana Upadesam." Thala Maram is Pinchilam-Jathi Malligai. The flowers are flourishing throught the year and adorable for swamy only.

While on a visit to temple Saraboji (Tanjore Maharastra king) seen Abirami Pattar , on the Abirami Shrine in a divine form. Converse with Abirami Pattar king willingly asked the priests there, "Who is he?” The priests told he was drunk and not in a form. The king didn't believe them, and asked Pattar "What is today's Didhi ?"(because king came to Cauveri Poombattinam to do a sacred bath on Amavasai Didhi). Pattar was in the high samadhi and replied, "Today poornima(Pournima)". King, on hearing this, got angry and told Pattar "today if moon does not appear, you'll be punished".

After awakening only Pattar realiszed what happened. He began to sing Tamil songs, "Uthikkinra"-Even , more than 78 songs were sung, Abirami was delighted on his songs, but did not prevent the sun set; night came; Pattar worried , sang the 79th song, "vizhikka arulundy." Abirami on hearing the song threw her ear ring on the sky and showed Pattar the full moon. The king was astonished on seeing this. The king prayed toPattar to fogive for his harshness towards him (Pattar).
